05/08/2007 | I'm not quite sure what your point is, but I'll try to respond, as I don't think I said anything against the Indian people, or against Gandhi. Truth is, I'm an admirer of him and what he did. I admire his non-violent approach and standing up to British imperialism. Like all human beings, however, he had flaws, complexities and contradictions. If I was to go back in a time machine (which is what the category is about), those are some of the things I'd address. His support of the Caste system, for instance. That's certainly not something I made up; it's historic fact- it's been well documented. As was his sleeping with nude women to ostensibly see if he could resist temptation. As was his habit of drinking urine for "health reasons". But if it came across that I was disparaging Gandhi or the Indian people, that certainly wasn't my intention. In fact, I think you're reading something into it that isn't there, but that's your issue, not mine. You're welcome, mate. |
