Mohandas (Mahatma) Ghandi

Spiritual and political leader of India and humanitarian.

Because of his great humanity and altruistic spirit, some of his contradictions become more glaringly obvious and more disturbing than they might be in a human being of lesser accomplishment, and I'd love to ask him how he reconciled some of those contradictions...for instance, his support of India's Caste system. Or, given his rigid morality, why he felt the need to "tempt" himself by sleeping between 2 nude women at night. Or the whole thing about drinking urine for "health reasons"...

I'm not quite sure what your point is, but I'll try to respond, as I don't think I said anything against the Indian people, or against Gandhi. Truth is, I'm an admirer of him and what he did. I admire his non-violent approach and standing up to British imperialism. Like all human beings, however, he had flaws, complexities and contradictions. If I was to go back in a time machine (which is what the category is about), those are some of the things I'd address. His support of the Caste system, for instance. That's certainly not something I made up; it's historic fact- it's been well documented. As was his sleeping with nude women to ostensibly see if he could resist temptation. As was his habit of drinking urine for "health reasons". But if it came across that I was disparaging Gandhi or the Indian people, that certainly wasn't my intention. In fact, I think you're reading something into it that isn't there, but that's your issue, not mine. You're welcome, mate.
