Innova 4

My golden loved this food...and he had no adverse reactions when I adruptly changed to this from Iams. The ONLY reason I went back to Iams is because his metabalism went out of wack....always hungry, never satisfied, begging.  He just always seemed hungry and he is prone to being overweight.  So I went back to my Iams, and that seems to be the food that works best for him.  But I like the reputation of Innova's company Natura.  They seem to be honest and doesn't sell from hype.  They work from the view point that this food needs to be as close to people food as possible...and it is true the ingredient list will make your mouth water.

I'm editing this and raising the rating:  My dog seems to gain weight easily and opine with any food and may have a thyroid problem.  He loved Innova (really loved it) and I have much respect for the company.  So this warrents more of a rating for me.  We might try it again....

Unfortunately dogs don't know what is healthy for them. That's where you have to make the right choices in order to keep them healthy. By feeding Iams, which is a very poor quality food, your dog will inevitably suffer poor health in the long run. Read the ingredients label on the food you are using. Know what those ingredients are and whether or not they're something a dog should consume. Go to the following websites I have listed to help you understand. dogaware.com, dogfoodanalysis.com, 4dogma.com, dogfoodproject.com.

I don't find those sites credible. I do believe that the protein source should be meat and that the meat should be named. Iam's does the research and changes and tweaks its formulas based on the results of its research. Holistic information is based more on idealology.

So let me get this straight, the only site that has any creditable research is Iams??? Iams research is put in a form in order to make their product look good. By-products are not good for any animal. Neither is corn. Holistic foods have done the research too. Want to look at a real research paper, go to Orijen's website and look at their white paper section. Or just do a good old fashioned google search. Then compare the information on Iams to everything else. As I showed you with the definitions Iams has on their website for by-products/chicken/chicken meal, they are not the true AAFCO definitions they are "tweaked" to make their food look healthy. Do the research, do not just depend on Iams to do it for you.

Iams, Purina, Science Diet and I believe Nutro spends vasts amount of recourses on long-term research. They use real scientists. Real methodology. Real control groups and and real dogs. Its real research that can offer real findings from which come RESULTS. The papers you mention are based on hypothesis, assumptions and its all manipulated with idealology. And there are so many errors and flat out exaggerationsattempt to emotionally manipulate people with nonsense words like fillers and scare mongering with words like toxins. .I suggest you do some research yourself. Perhaps it might give you perspective to look up each claim using sources outside the holistic/animal rights community. This is tough.I have googled these claims and they are simply repeated by like minded people that have taken it as faith. The claims seem to have no basisnothing solid to stand on. But people put there faith in it. Thats fine. But dont be upset when people opt to think differently.

Yet why is it that Iams, Science Diet, Purina, and Nutro all had foods recalled? Why is it that foods like Nature's Variety, Orijen and Honest Kitchen still remain some of the safest foods on the market? Could it be that they actually use quality ingredients and not wheat gluten and rice protien? Makes you wonder huh?

Here is an example of one of purina "studies". A 14 year lifelong study shows that feeding a lifetime of purina adds up to two healthy years onto your dogs life. So what, the dog died at 14? That is not very old for any dog. Dogs have the potential to live well into their 20's. The oldest dog lived to be 28 and he died right before kibble came into existence. Since then, there has not been a single dog that has been able to live that long while being fed cheap kibble. Those are not results. That is Iams, Purina, Science Diet and Nutro spouting of B.S. statistics and killing our animals.

Regarding the Purina study, a fat dog will die before the age of 14. And the only dogs that live to be close to twenty are small dogs. A Yorkie will live to be 18 if its kept in good shape. But a Great Dane....well that is a whole different story. A Golden that lives to 14 has lived a long life. There are acceptions but where is the proof that all dogs can easily live 20 t 25 years? Nobody kept records. Its a made up assumption. It is especially is not a credible statement when you look at the vast difference in life-span between a large dog and a small dog. Any responsible person would take that into consideration....instead of over-generalizing.

Uh oh...you are mis using Purina's study. They never said using Purina would enhance life-span. They were studying the life span of dogs at ideal wieght as opposed to dogs at a slightly higher wieght. They were not using two different foods and comparing. That would be a good study thought. Perhaps a holistic company could try that...if they dare.

I might add that all the dogs don't have to be dead for Purina to come forth with its findings....And I agree with you that a smaller reputable company that produces its own food is safer. I wouldn't use anything from Diamond.

I was not misusing Purina's study. That was directly from their commercial. If that was no the true study, then they are misadvertising. Why would you not use diamond but feel safe using a food owned by Proctor and Gamble and produced by Menu Foods? The dog that lived to be 28 was an australian cattle dog, not a yorkie or other small dog and that is documented. They have a few other claims that of dogs that lived to be 30 but those were not documented so, the oldest dog did live to be 28.

I can't comment on the commercial as I've never seen it. The study is brought up on the purina website and it clearly expresses the need to keep your dog at the ideal weight. .........Regarding the 28 year old dog, you can't make generalizations from one dog. It doesn't make sense to say that if only dogs ate Holistic food they would live to be 28 like that one dog did many years ago. What you need is a long term controlled study of dogs on alpo and dogs on Innova. ................I don't trust Diamond as they have alot on there plate and do many brands..low quality, high quality...they are more prone to mistakes. Their employees don't emotionally have "ownership" of one brand. A company like Innova (I believe) will take control...they and their employees take pride in the product...which means less mistakes. They use menu foods also, but after the big recall they sent their employees down to oversee every step of the process. I feel the same trust regarding Iam's. They deal with only their Iam and Eukanuba brands. Though I do believe Innova safer as they are smaller. Diamond has made mistakes, and though I don't believe corn is "bad", I do believe it is prone to mold toxins and testing is haphazard...kinda scary really. Apparent you can test different parts of the same shipment and get different results... Not sure I'd want to trust Diamond to do a good job..they've had major issues.

hrhshow! Iams is a good (not the best) food. Eukanuba is much better. Innova is good...just didn't seem to work best for Lucky. Most premiums I wouldn't touch...I don't trust them. Please do some research and try to get an open mind.
