For the most part a very good and versatile actor, as witnessed by his gritty performance in
Road to Perdition and his very effective performance in
Saving Private Ryan. My favorite, however, is his excellent and unforgettable performance in
Philadelphia; see my review of it
here. On the other hand, he's been in his share of yawners. Remember
Joe and the Volcano? Yeah, I know, very forgettable. Chalk it up to bad script selection.
