As much as I dislike him, I can't deny he wasn't an extremely powerful and successful Sith. If it hadn't been for a bunch of 'meddling kids', he would have been Emperor a hell of a lot longer. He matched Yoda in saber combat and his Force Lightning proficiency was incredible. He failed to secure immortality, despite the many clones he had made.
