Julian Tavarez 2

Had some decent years with Cleveland early on, but it's winding down now. Hot tempered  pedestrian middle relief/ 5th starter type. Even though he's  actually only in his mid 30's, he looks like he's pushing 60- and has played for so many teams that you believe he was on a club in Prussia with spiked batting helmets. I interrupt this review with a Red Sox fan bitching/ complaining resentful announcement:

A few weeks ago, the godawful Fox team, who have an incontestable bias to the point of "let's get high by smelling Derek Jeter's socks and plant a fat one on fascist Steinbrenner's behind at all times" anyway, showed a Saturday game between the Red Sox and Yankees, which Boston won 11-9 or something. They had a representative of each club announce the lineup cards. NY had Reggie Jackson, who is certainly a Yankee legend, even though he was actually a better player with the A's. Fox had JULIAN TAVAREZ do it. Run of the mill Tavarez who has been there for a whopping total of two undistinguished years. In FENWAY PARK of all places. Not Yaz, not Jim Rice, not Johnny Pesky. Insult to injury

I just got back from Oakland, where I saw this guy pitch against Haren. Looked pretty bad, but what was worse is how slow he works. With nobody on he takes 40 seconds a pitch. With runners on its closing on 90. If he pitched to Mike Hargrove, they'd never get out of the at bat.

Haren's an interesting pitcher, i seems like the Cards gave up on him too soon- they could sure use him now..Tavarez wouldn't have been a bad pickup - about 10 years ago that is...

Haren looked good, threw a 4 hitter but didn't get the win because Embree gave up the tying run in the ninth. I'm always a little leery of Oakland pitchers because of the help they get from the park, but I'd tend to agree about Haren.
