There certainly have been plenty of people throughout history who have done unspeakable things in the name of Christ, things that he certainly would have never advocated.
Indeed, I find many people who have a chip on their shoulder about Christianity know the least bit about it. But there are also a lot of good people who genuinely try to live out the ideals that Christ stipulated. So maybe perhaps its best that we not paint with such a broad brush here.
