Since the '90s, Dean Smith has been the coach to emulate. Though he may not have been TOO popular when he first arrived (I have an uncle that was there at the time), he really came around to claim Tar Heel hearts. Most wins ever, most sweet sixteen appearances in a row, lots of final fours, big nose, and the list continues. He gave UNC enough of a permanent name that coaches since have been able to work well with his foundation.
