Some people are placed in one's life for a season... sometimes they may be people who have grown close for a time, but then (for reasons sometimes only they know) they decide to part company and move on, and any further icebreaker sent to them (by card, phone, letter, or whatever the case may be) to try to win them back seems to be ignored, and sometimes taken as a sign that they'd like to be left alone. I know some people who I haven't been in contact with for years, yet that doesn't stop me from thinking about them from time to time.
Oh, well... such is life.
