Yamaha Raptor 350

Great machine my friend has a 2001 400ex it is piped and jetted with the k&n and white bros.E series exhaust. We ride all the time and the 400 only beat me by 1/2 a length when mine was stock. I think that the 400 has a little more grunt on the bottom but my 350 catches up on the top. Both quads have the same cog ratio's but everyone knows the 350 has that extra gear on the top. Really they where about the same on the power side of things. Now I have piped and jetted mine with the dg rcm 2 and K&N power pack as well as a big gun rev box and changed the front cog up just one tooth this made a big difference in the way this quad performs. The torque is unbeleavable and it gets staight into the mid to top end range. These modifications where pretty cheap to I spent about $400.00 on it all. My friend spent that on his pipe alone. Now he gets beat by 1 1/2 to 2 lengths everytime. My friend cannot beleave that the 350 beats the 400. The point is that in most cases with the right mods and gear ratios a smaller displacment engine can outrun bigger quads. If you take the Hp. you gained and translate that into more top end speed it is easy to win drag races and you can still have that bottom end for the trails. Just don't let locals Know yous secrets and you could win some money. Now as far as trail riding they are about even the 400 is a little smoother but the 350 has a reverse. I think the size of the 400 hurts it it tight spots but in open teritory and on the track gives it the edge on the 350. The reliability has got to go to the 350 like the warrior the whole quad is just bullet proof. The only complaints I have is the out dated chain adjustment and the reverse is a little tricky. I think the only thing that hurts the honda and everyone who has one knows you have to change axle bearings at least once a year. The 300,400,and 250R all have the same problem. Honda fans save yourself the trouble get a lonestar rear end ASAP problem solved bulletproof. These quads are both great and both have there ups and downs so I give both a five star.
