Bullfighting
2
I went to a bullfight in Madrid a couple days ago, and it was nothing
but a public display of animal cruelty to me. The most entertaining
part of that
evening was when a bull trampled a matadore and threw a picador out
of the ring. I gave that bull a standing ovation at the end, because he
was able to make something happen with all odds against him and after
being stabbed in the neck by a spear.
A team of armed men taking down a defenseless bull that does not want
to be there is not something
that I'd call a fair fight. The bull has no chance. If any one would dare to go head up
against a healthy bull one on one, I'd pay to see that. But matadores
who run away at the first sign of danger, humiliate the stupidity of a
bull in front of a crowd, and rely on their buddies to
weaken the bull before stabbing it to death are nothing but cowards to
me. Sure, sports such as NHL, NFL, boxing and professional wrestling
may be
violent and dangerous, but the participants choose to
participate. In bullfighting, the bull does not get to
choose. After looking at the facial expression of the
bulls at the stadium, their eyes only show fear and shame. They do not
want to be there. If you need to kill a bull for meat, kill it
instantly at a slaughterhouse. There is no need for a public
display of torturing a bull to death.
