Transparency in reviewing keeps people honest

Jed1000

I think the opposite is much more likely to be true. Human nature being what it is and the realities of RIA being what they are, I think most people will now feel obligated to give their friends (and their friends' lists and list items) a high rating rather than rating as they truly feel. Others will feel intimidated into giving high ratings (or avoid rating something altogether) only to avoid being harassed or browbeaten by some pissed off stranger. I don't see honesty resulting from any of this. In fact, I think that honesty may become the first victim of this new capability.

Apologies to Lawrence who I know is committed to improving the website. I just don't think this particular improvement will have the intended results. I hope I'm wrong.

Point well taken where the insecure few and the obsessive-compulsive are concerned; and yet, even they will eventually become weary of returning to it repeatedly. Don't think most others will even bother much, other than on the rare occasion where deep curiosity gets the best of us.

I hope everyone else feels the same as you do but I'm not sure they will. I always hope for the best, however.

I think you're probably right about the RIA reviewers list. It's certainly tougher to give a one star rating. But for a random weblist? I'm not going to rate a band, or a movie, or a politician, or anything else higher or lower than i normally would have, I don't think...

You make a good point; but it won't effect my ratings whatsoever.
