Global Warming

Many believe that Global Warming is caused by man's activity. 5=Significant Political Issue

Global Warming 1

Most of the evidence concerning U.S. temperature trends is collected by NOAAs National Data Climatic Center which gathers information from about 1,200 weather observation stations across the nation. These stations are small wooden sheds with thermometers, which are read at intervals, mostly by volunteers. Many are located in sprawling urban and industrial centers, known as heat islands, and are subject to higher readings than stations in rural areas where temperatures are subject mostly to land use effects.

Most of the recent global-warming alarmists use 1998 as the benchmark for the hottest year on record, but it turns out that their reporting is flawed, the result of a math blunder.

In fact, 1934 was the hottest year on record, and four of the ten hottest years in the U.S. were recorded in the 1930s. The second hottest year on record was 1998, but the third hottest was 1921, not 2006. Notably, six of the ten hottest years occurred prior to 90 percent of the economic growth associated with increased greenhouse-gas emissions.

Update: I am still....STILL waiting for loerke or any other gullible believer in man-made global warming to tell us what the mean temperature of the earth SHOULD be. If they cannot answer that question, their arguments have no validity whatsoever.

Update 2: Just for you "global warming" guys (or gals), here is yet another link:

That's interesting data... do you have a link that we can read more?

magellan commented 834 days ago.
Here's some data from NASA. The four hottest years in the last century are: 2005, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004 http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/environment/2005_w armest.html

I can give you tons of links. Would you accept any of them as legit?

magellan commented 834 days ago.
This seems like pretty big news Victor, hence my "helpful." I don't claim to be scientist, so I'd love to read more on this. Do you see your sources as more authoritative than NASA?

Only this past week, as reported by the Washington Times, did NASA say that their data was faulty, and that 1934 was the hottest year on record.

magellan commented 834 days ago.
That's a good read... I wish the article had sourced a link to show the NASA restatement.

Victor83 commented 834 days ago.
"restatement"? I think I know where you are going with this...let's see... (?)

magellan commented 834 days ago.
Here's a link to the restated data: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/Fig.D_lrg. gif Thanks for pointing that out story Victor, interesting stuff.

Victor83 commented 834 days ago.
Thanks.

The blog sites, which is what that is, are quoting one guy, NASA climatologist Gavin Schmidt, who is trying to debunk the Washington Times story and the facts in my post here. A similar link to the one you posted is http://blog.alexwhalen.com/blogarchives/2007/08/193 4_not_1998_the_hottest_year.php Even here, there is an admission that the NASA data was faulty. And NASA itself, oficially, has said that...as opposed to one individual there who is unhappy with the truth.

I thought this was a pretty even handed summary of the controversy: http://www.coyoteblog.com/coyote_blog/2007/08/offic ial-us-cli.html

BTW, thanks for the helpful and the discussion, magellan. I see that my little stalker-troll friend is still her.

Loerke commented 833 days ago.
Victor, what the heck are you asking when you wonder what the ideal temperature of earth should be? I already answered that in my post. The point is there IS change, which even aWiseguy isn't denying, and that we'll have to make massive adjustments to our lives to cope with it. Does the PENTAGON report not convince you???

Loerke commented 833 days ago.
Victor, I read your link. That interview was as exiguous as Britney Spears's bra. All it says is that we can't be sure. So msnbc found one scientist who says he's not sure. Big deal.

Victor83 commented 833 days ago.
Loerke...you do in fact understand my point...you simply cannot refute it and that is apparently pissing you off. There are numerous links, numerous scientists. Doctor Joe Sobel, Chief Meteorologist and climatologist for the weather channel said "global warming is much ado about nothing". I guess he doesn't know what he's talking about either, right? And the guy in the msnbc link is not just "one scientist", Loerke. Take some of that energy and do a little research rather than just buying at face value what the Al Gore camp feeds you.

Wiseguy commented 833 days ago.
Loe, I never asked the question why global warming is happening. You fail to consider the historical accounts of the change, which I am saying is normal. The PENTAGON report is irrelevant.

Victor83 commented 833 days ago.
Wise...I guess the msnbc link has no credibility either...you know how conservative they are...LOL.

Loerke commented 833 days ago.
for chrissake, I never listened to Gore or saw his damn movie. this is getting flatly ridiculous. so you're saying that the Pentagon is finalizing plans for possible operations on a post-glacial north pole because ... ?

Victor83 commented 833 days ago.
Loerke...I know that you said you never saw Gore's movie. That is why I said the "Al Gore camp". Would enviro-whacko's have been better? As to the Pentagon, since when did they become an unimpeachable source? I have yet to check your link, but I will be glad to do so. This is about a BODY of evidence combined with good old fashioned common sense. You agree that there was once an ice age, right? So I guess one could say that we have been "warming" ever since. If you still believe that 1998 was the hottest year on record, that means that every year since has been COOLER than 1998...HELLO! how could that be warming? See where I am going here?
