United Van Lines 1

United Van Lines - Fry & Wagner, Earth City, MO. (314) 291-4100 Ask for Stan Eisen.

What a SCAM! We used them for a move from VA to OR - weight was 16,000 lbs. Two years later, we used Fry & Wagner, but they didn't know we used United Van Lines 2 years earlier. We jetisoned 1/3 of our belongings - Washer, dryer, fridge, hot tub, living room and family room furniture, library bookshelves and books, etc. We felt we didn't want to pay to move anything we didn't want or use in the two years since we had just moved.

Guess what?!? They claimed our weight for this move was 4,000 pounds MORE than our last move! WRONG ANSWER! We moved LESS, not more! Packing was a lot easier this last move, yet we weighed more. Driver told us he lost the weight ticket. Company says they lost it. If you lost the ticket, then how do you know how much to bill us?

Don't worry, I tell everyone I know how much United Van Lines ripped us off. I have gone as far as to tell people when the moving truck is in their driveway to be watchful for United Van lines. I've done this three times in one year, and will continue to address this matter with every potential customer I meet of theirs.

I hope their business drops off because of my crusade. Think of all the potential customers I will meet for the next 40 years or so...

The Real Story...
In response to the allegations made by Mr. and Mrs. Dennehy, I would like to offer the follow facts regarding their relocation from Salem, Oregon to Lawrence, Kansas:

The shipment was originally estimated to weigh 19,500# by a certified representative of United Van Lines in Salem. The Dennehy's accepted the estimate and engaged the services of United for interstate transportation. On the dates requested, a Van Operator for Fry-Wagner, (An Agent of United Van Lines), provided the loading, transport and delivery services. The actual weight of the shipment, (certified weight tickets are available and were provided), was determined to be within 4% of the estimated charges. As the customer was not willing to accept the facts as supported, UVL and Fry-Wagner agreed to provide a weight reconstruction based by comparing the customer's actual inventory to that of the 'Military / Industry Table of Weights and Depreciation Guide.' Said reconstruction reflected the weight to be greater than that represented by the weight tickets
by an additional 3.5%. As previously agreed, the customer was allowed to pay the lesser of the two.

As there is no basis or facts to the Dennehys allegations, I would ask that you voluntarily remove this posting from your site.

The problem with the move is that the actual weight tickets "were lost by the driver" or so the story goes.

Certified weight tickets were not available and were not supplied as suepyles writes in the comment above. I find it hard to believe that all the weigh station paperwork was "lost".

The drivers also neglected to put our furniture back together upon delivery - things that should never have been taken apart to begin with. Garage shelf units were left behind. We visited our old neighbors and saw our shelf units in their garage - they told us "we thought you were leaving them behind." Gee, thanks United Van Lines for not packing all of our belongings!

Weight reconstruction - another part of the shell game. When we moved from Virginia to Oregon, we filled an entire truck with our belongings and had things leftover that had to go via POV. From Oregon to Kansas we had an Army family's stuff in there with our belongings. How is it that our weight was more this time?

All moves aren't billed off to a company - some people pay for it themselves and use due diligence. Moving companies beware! I tell everyone I know.

If you are reading this and are thinking of moving, I strongly suggest you go to the weigh station with the truck BEFORE they fill the truck and AFTER they fill the truck so you know exactly how much the truck weighs. Do NOT take NO for an answer. They talked my wife out of it and now we are regretting it.
