A few years ago I spent nearly 3 weeks in Britain and Ireland. I never ceased to be amazed at the beauty of the countryside and towns. When I returned home, one of the first things that hit me in the face is how addicted to advertising we are...not that other countries don't have ugly points - of course they do. But...eeeshhhh! Billboards are just so obviously cheesy and in-your-face obnoxious. It's such an obvious symbol of how little we care about the visual beauty of the landscape and our surroundings - uhh, never mind the health of the environment. Until we get over using every bit of visable space to hawk cigs and cheap cars well, I don't see much hope for aesthetics or the well being of the environment.
