Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI) 4

Very predictable, paid per schedule. Overall we got exactly what we expected. We've had VPI Superior for almost 4 years since Jack was a puppy. This year we had 2 TPLO surgeries, and VPI has reimbursed exactly according to their schedule, covering roughly 40% of the cost. "Could" VPI be more communicative about the status of a claim? Sure. But it's not necessary. Give it 6-8 weeks if you've done your submission correct and you'll get exactly what the schedule commits. For all insurance, it's the details. Before signing up for any policy from any company, do yourself a favor and read the fine print. There are conditions not covered, and there are limits to what's paid out - and that has nothing to do with how much a vet charges you. I've read countless emotional, irrational posts damning insurance companies for not delivering on their promise, when in fact they do exactly that, deliver on the promise they make in writing in the policy.

The trouble is, they use any excuse possible to deny a claim. My pup was diagnised with demodectic mange when a pup. Now they use this as an excuse to deny any claims relating to a skin condition. He recently had a bacterial skin infection that was causing him to itch and scratch. Vet said demodex was cleared up and treated infection with antibiotics. VPI STILL denied claim saying it was demodex!
