For California Natural Dog Food it's what's missing that matters. With our natural dog food, cat food, puppy food and dog treats, you'll never find fillers, by-products or artificial preservatives that can cause allergic reactions or stomach issues in your pets. Just wholesome, unrefined pet food ingredients that are as pure and natural as the way Mother Nature intended.

California Natural 2

My dog has been having vomiting and a lot of diarrhea for the last 6 weeks. It started about the time we bought his currant bag of CN Chicken and Rice. When I take him off and give him boiled hamburg and rice his diarrhea improves, if I add a little CN to hid food it worsens again. Any one else having this problem with their dog? Anyone else concerned?

For 9 years I used Wellness Chicken, Lamb, Venison and Fish and my 3 kids-a Pointer mix, a yellow lab and an Italian Greyhound/Pharaoh Hound exhibited the yellow bile vomiting which I didn't realize was due to the food. It's been 8 weeks now since I changed to California Natural Herring and Sweet Potato formula and they haven't experienced an episode since! They actually lick their chops for 10 minutes after they eat until I walk them which is immediately after they eat in the morning. My only concern was the formula didn't include any glucosemine or chondroiten, which I believe is important for healthy joints. The reason I switched was due to the vomiting of the yellow bile but most of all becaouase of my Lab, who exhibited skil issues and ear infections. Believe me I had taken him to the VEt who prescribed all sorts of antibiotics and other medications which only solved his issues temporarily. With This kibble these issues began to dissipate 90% and I was thrilled! Nevertheless I believed more nutrirents were needed. Two and 1/2 weeks ago Orijen Ocean Blue/fish finally became available at my local Pet Shop (small business). I combine one cup[for my Lab and Pointed and a 1/4 C for my Italian Greyhound because you only need about 1/3 less than other foods] with the California Natural and they just LOVE it! My Lab's hair is growing back, his scratching has stopped 95% and his ear infection has almost disappeared as well. Orijen is more expensive, but for me is a great additive with the California formula and it is GRAIN FREE!

Dear Ksslenk; sorry to hear that your little one is having such issues! I had a very similar problem that became worse over time when my dog was on Eukanuba (I shiver to even admit that I ever fed him Eukanuba). CN is a far superior product to Eukanuba; no comparison intended. Unfortunately, food quality notwithstanding, dogs may and do react differently to different foods, and it may very well be that CN is not the best choice for your dog. It sounds like CN may be the cause especially since the symptoms decrease when you remove it from his daily diet. One thing to consider however is that these symptoms are not unique to a diet. Parasitic infections, for example, have similar symptoms. The only way to be certain that your pooch has not contracted some nasty infection is a vet exam, which I would strongly recommend at this point. In the meantime, you can find other foods comparable if not better in quality to CN: Timberwolf, Innova, Orijen, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, to mention but a few. Take care and good luck to both of you.

Yes, I just e-mailed the company to ask if anyone else has been experiencing problems. I opened a new bag just to see if the symptoms would disappear. Both bags are marked with an expiration date of August, 2008. I have been feeding CN Chicken and Rice for many months, but I am going to switch back to Wellness to see if the symptoms improve. I have had both dogs to the vet and they are both on antibiotic. I have been boiling chicken and rice, but as soon as I start adding CN kibble back into the mix, the diarrhea starts again.
