I was on accutane for 1 month at the lowest dose. Before starting treatment I had baseline blood work done. The results were normal. Before refilling the script the blood-work had to be repeated. I had no side effects or symptoms, however the results showed that my liver enzymes skyrocketed. I was immediately taken off accutane- It is now 5 months later and my enzyme level is still very high. If it does not return to normal within the next 2 months I will have to go for a liver biopsy. The doctors discussed the black box warning regarding depression-it actually had the opposite effect as my skin cleared up i had more confidence. I realize that mine was an extreme reaction but had I known accutane could have long lasting/permanent liver problems I would not have taken it. This product should be taken off the market. IF YOU STILL CHOOSE TO USE ACCUTANE BE SURE TO TO HAVE A BASELINE BLOOD WORK DONE AND REPEAT THE TEST EVERY MONTH TO MAKE SURE YOUR LEVELS STAY WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE.
