Dwight David Eisenhower (1953-1961) 4

Probably one of our more underrated presidents. Any time a war ends, the economy takes a temporary hit, but Ike managed to keep that to a minimum after the truce in Korea. It was Eisenhower that initiated the interstate highway system that is still in use today. It was actually Eisenhower that first introduced civil rights legislation, but all attempts were blocked by Democrats in congress, oddly enough.

Nothing fancy here. He was just a hard working man who had never held a political office before and quietly did a good job.

There was nothing peculiar about Democrats blocking civil rights legislation during the period before Nixon instituted his Southern Strategy and welcomed all the Dixiecrats into the Republican Party.

Not surpringly you missed the point, reading more into an offhand comment than what is there. What "oddly enough" was referring to was the insistence of ignorant individuals that Republicans were blocking civil rights while Democrats gave birth to the movement, which was not the case. Lyndon Johnson, the Democrats embracing those who spit on American soldiers when they returned from Vietnam, and the manipulation of the Constitution such as Roe vs. Wade had as much to do with the South becoming red as anything. You can continue to blame it all on Nixon if you want, you will continue to be wrong.

Anybody who says Democrats were for civil rights in the '50s is simply ignorant of recent American history.

However, Republicans weren't exactly gung ho about granting colored people equal rights back then either, and - since Nixon - the Republican Party has been the party of reaction on virtually every issue.

And... since the Nixon era... douchebags have been trying to paint Republicans with a stereotypical brush in place of actual facts or real arguments.

Take a pill.

An odd comment from someone that insists on coming back to a review that's a year and a half old to make inane comments. But feel free to do the same. Several.
