P.F. Chang's 1

THE WORST! At a mall in Monterey, Ca., Oct 07. After being seated, the server didn't show up. About ten minutes later a hostess came by, noticed that nothing was happening, apologized and said someone would be right there. Not. After another while, a manager came by, noticed that nothing was happening, apologized and said a server would be right there. Another five minutes or so and a waitress showed up. We ordered some 'potstickers' and steamed dumplings. They were served lukewarm. The skins were tough and the ingredients had no flavor. The knives and forks were wrapped in napkins. All were water-spotted and looked unclean. The tiny dark brown plastic 'chopsticks' would have had better use as knitting needles. Some people ordered tea. The server brought a tiny metal teapot (which held about a thimble full of water) and, instead of teacups, brought large coffee mugs, explaining that they were out of teacups at that time. Our group ordered several main dishes, chicken, vegetarian, seafood, lamb, etc., with white and brown rice. The waitress brought a stack of empty plates for the main course. Well, they weren't actually all that empty, since some had leftover pieces of food on them from previous diners. So the waitress took them all back and returned in a short time with a stack of dishes. This second stack didn't look all that clean either, sort of covered with a thin greasy film, (as if someone had wiped the first stack with a less-than-clean cloth) but at least there were no visible chunks of food. After awhile one of the main courses arrived, but no rice. After several more minutes the waitress came by and asked if we had received the other five or six courses. We said no. She went away, and awhile later the other courses arrived, with brown rice, but no white rice. We asked about the white rice. The waitress said there would be no white rice because there was some problem with it in the kitchen. No white rice in a Chinese restaurant?! Even though the main dishes were supposed to be different (i.e. some hot & spicy, some sweet & sour, some meat, some fish, etc.) they were all lukewarm and all tasted pretty much the same, which is to say that they had no flavor at all. The lamb was tough and had pieces of gristle. P.F. Chang's is a Chinese restaurant in name only. The food is so tasteless that I hesitate to even call it 'Americanized' Chinese. During the two or so hours of this dining ordeal there were probably a couple of hundred people in the place, but we saw no asians, either working there, or perhaps more significantly, eating there, which itself probably says something about the food. Pluses? The decor was nice and it appears that noone in our little group got food poisoning from the unclean utensils/dinnerware. Summary: Bad food, bad service, unclean dinnerware.

"We ordered some 'potstickers' and steamed dumplings. They were served lukewarm." Impossible. b/c there is no such thing as "potstickers" in our restaurants, unless you're referring to our potsticker sauce, which is served with such appetizers as the veggie or peking dumplings. "The knives and forks were wrapped in napkins." Not true, b/c our silverware is wrapped in "black colored linens." The tiny dark brown plastic 'chopsticks' would have had better use as knitting needles. Again, not true, since our chopsticks are black in color and not brown. Some people ordered tea. The server brought a tiny metal teapot (which held about a thimble full of water) and, instead of teacups, brought large coffee mugs, explaining that they were out of teacups at that time. Not true, since teacups are ALWAYS available at any and every PF Changs. The waitress brought a stack of empty plates for the main course. Well, they weren't actually all that empty, since some had leftover pieces of food on them from previous diners. So the waitress took them all back and returned in a short time with a stack of dishes. This second stack didn't look all that clean either, sort of covered with a thin greasy film, (as if someone had wiped the first stack with a less-than-clean cloth), but at least there were no visible chunks of food. arrived, but no rice. So are you complaining or not?
