The ‘Gnostic Gospels’ are at least as authentic as the Gospels of John, Mark, Luke and Matthew.

It should be noted that there are a lot of "books" and "gospels" that didn't make the cut when the various versions of the Bible were assembled over the course of centuries.

The fact that one made it in, and another didn't is no proof of eithers validity or lack thereof.

Assuming that "authenticity" here, means historical accuracy, it should be noted (in both cases) that such accuracy is a dubious concept in documents written some two to three centuries after the events they describe.

Make sense. And yet, there is cause to consider, if you are inclined to so believe, the workings of Divine inspiration among the Fathers of the Church in determining affairs of religious consequence, even centuries after. This possibility should not be taken with a light or revisionist dismissal: profound thinkers in matters of Faith throughout History required dedicated and intense study not to be mistaken for the relative autodidacticism of latter ages.
