Sorry, but driving under the influence is not a laughing matter, and I'm very surprised that anyone rated it more than a 1. Every day the newspaper chronicles the tragic deaths and injuries caused by driving under the influence. This offense deserves much more severe punishment than currently imposed. Although the current punishment is fairly severe, jail time should be mandatory for even first offenders. Remember, alcohol always makes you feel more confident of your abilities, and you don't realize the extent to which your judgment and driving ability is impaired. I know whereof I speak, since as a former prosecutor I tried many such cases, to the point where I could almost recite a toxicologist's testimony by heart. I rode two full night shifts a year with the Highway Patrol, so believe me when I tell you they are very determined impaired-driver hunters when the sun goes down. Take a cab--it's much cheaper in the long run, and the life you save may be yours or mine.
