OK, if you want to earn on on-line degree, this is almost the only REAL college where you can do the whole thing on-line. Most courses are gut courses, especially F2F. On-line, that's a WHOLE different story. If there's any course you might have trouble with (and that includes ANY lab course) find a local school (community college) and take it there. There's NO back up where you really need it and you wind spending (no kidding) easily 18-20 hours a week doing assigned labs that have no relevance to the course objectives, etc. I wasted an entire semester learning nothing before I wised up. F2F a teacher will say "skip it, it's not on the final"; on-line you have to every last stupid assignment, most of which are wastes of time. And there is NO ONE to complain to; they just blow you off, even if it's about poor performance by a teacher. Some are good and supportive, most just taking the gig for a little extra money. And some have no clue what they're talking about....

Of course face to face courses are preferable; I honestly don't understand how you can do a lab online. This requirement seems silly for distance learners. I'm thankful I took my labs when I was at UMD. I have had a few teachers I wouldn't recommend, but I don't think it's indicative of an abundance of faculty "taking the gig for a little extra money." That's a pretty presumptuous and unsupported statement. There are good and bad factors with any school. I've had some really thorough, thoughtful professors who were excited about teaching. And about poor teacher performance...each class has a mandatory review which gives you ample space to make your grievances known. It seems to me that UMUC takes these reviews seriously.
