Eclipse (Stephenie Meyer) 1

I am sad to say that I only give Eclipse one star for Jacob and nothing else. Seriously, what the heck happened to this series? It started so simply and became so overly complicated so that it no longer focused on the central romance.
Jacob was more present than Edward in both New Moon and Eclipse, how are we supposed to like Edward on a human level (don't joke on that) when he is missing so often? Is Meyer hoping that Ed's appearance in Twilight (which was really only about half of the book since he was so distant) will be enough to tie us to him? Why should we care about him anyway? All Bella does is gush over his marble and icy perfection, not his personality or even regular talents, but his looks! At least with Jacob, Bella interacts with him like a human: they laugh, they cry, they FIGHT, and make up. They act like a normal healthy couple, unlike Edward/Bella in which they never fight, and when they disagree, a few smooches and caresses is enough to make everything better. They are so boring.
Ed is a Gary Stu, no doubt about it. Jacob may have flaws but those flaw make him human and likable whereas Edward is perfect and we're expected to not label him a Stu and love him.
Oh and Bella. Worst feminist role model ever. She constantly puts herself down, always needs a hot man to keep her sanity in check, is incredibly vain about OTHER people's appearances, and is in fact a very selfish individual so at least that one overly said complaint is correct. Bella doesn't even hold a grudge against Edward! What the heck! She just forgives him and knows what he did was right! I hate her!
The only strong female in the entire series who isn't flighty, vain, or a b***** is Alice, Esme (but that may be because we hardly ever see her) and Angela (the human). Every other female is obsessed with her man and turns all sour, bitter, and depressed (including Bella) when he leaves.
Everyone was so STUPID! I knew by just reading the excerpt in the New Moon Special Edition who was behind the newborns in Seattle, but only near the end of the book just as the ending is coming in does the obvious identity of the villain occur to ANYONE- no not even that far, only when the villain's identity is discovered just as it approaches does Ed acknowledge this! Nor do they even consider that the vampire who entered Forks was from the obvious vampire villain, Bella panics and suggests this but no one pays her mind.
This romance isn't even romantic anymore, it is an unhealthy obsession which only ONE person in the entire book says. Not even the oh so wonderful Cullens try to help Ed's unhealthy relationship. Renee awed over the (creepy) magnet like movements of Ed and Bella- is that supposed to be romantic?
The werewolves was the final straw to the camel's back. Imprinting. This story is so obsessed with making everything all true love it ignores homosexuality! There is no freaking mention of it anywhere. Jacob went into a long paragraph of when you imprint that GIRL is all that matters, SHE is your sun, SHE is everything. No thought was even given to possible homosexual werewolves. This isn't surprising if the Mormon stereotype means anything.
All in all, this book really annoyed me. Take my advice and just read Twilight, maybe New Moon since Edward was actually emotional at the end. But not Eclipse. Please don't pay heed to the under five sentences reviews whose titles are "I LUV THIS" and go on about how much they love Edward and just love the series. They didn't state why they like the series. Read the reviews that actually go into detail.
