Bil-Jac 1

I have 11 year old Yorkie and put him on Bil Jac about 6 months ago. He loved it. However, he has been gassy and recently developed breathing problems. I took him to the vet and had a chest X-ray. His liver and spleen were found to be enlarged suggesting cancer. I had an ultrasound done on the liver and spleen and no mass was found. After more tests it was believed he was having an allergic reaction to something. Apparently an allergy can cause the liver and spleen to become enlarged. When I learned this, I remembered I had changed his food to Bil Jac about six months earlier. I immediately changed him back to his original food, Royal Canine. The breathing problems cleared up in a few days and the gas went away immediately. After reviewing this blog, I can also confirm my dog too has also experienced a build up of tarter on his teeth. I have always had his teeth cleaned annually and just recently has his teeth really gotten a heavy build up. We also have a 2 year old poodle which was on Bil Jac as well. He too loved the food. He didn't develop any breathing problems, but he did have gas and a bad tarter build up on his teeth. I would suggest you find something other than Bil Jac for your dog. markallenthompson@gmail.com

I have a 7 month old boxer and was feeding her Purina Pro Plan for about 3mos. We have had her since she was 6 wks. old. Every since I had fed her Purina Pro Plan she had began to scratch alot. I told my husband I thought it was the food, because she did not do it until we switched her food. For about 3 1/2 weeks she would not eat her food consistantly. You put it down; she would smell it and walk away. Went to Pet Smart and a Bil Jac rep was there and telling us about the dog food. We took the 40lb bag of Pro Plan back to Pet Smart and purchased a big bag of Bil Jac instead. OH my gosh!! My dog loves this food. I am so happy. I was really worried because she was loosing some weight. I agree that you have to get what works for your dog. If this brand did not work who knows we would have had to try a natural brand; so I honestly think you get what works for your dog. This is not our first dog. Our other dog we used to feed Science Diet; so it just depends. There are alot of things that we eat everyday that have ingridients that are not the best, but alot of us continue to eat them. Some can with no problems and some can not. I think that this is true for animals also.

Ok Yorkie owner - You obviously don't know ANYTHING about Yorkshire Terriers. I have owned Yorkies for 30 years. The #1 problem with Yorkies is their bad teeth. They are KNOWN for having horrible teeth problems. You have to brush them constantly and get them cleaned. Irregardless, they are known for not only tartar, but for losing their teeth. My aunt raised and showed this breed for over 40 years and was actually President of the LA Yorkshire Terrier Assoc. for years. She will also tell you that even show dogs often lose many teeth over the years. (My theory is that it is the PH of their saliva. Have you ever seen someone who eats and then has lots of food residue on their teeth while others might not? ) So, argument aside about the attributes or problems associated with BilJac, know your breed before you comment on a "problem" with food!

Regarding gassiness for your Yorkie...I have just started feeding my two Yorkies Biljac. I'm on this website searching to see how others regard it as I'm still not 100% sure. One thing I DO know is that my dogs are NOT gassy at all! They have always been free feeders and don't eat a lot of this cereal. I only have them on the dry food, supplemented with good people food (if we have chicken and vegetables and potatoes, they get small amounts at dinnertime). The hugest surprise is that my 10 and 11 year old Yorkies have TREMENDOUS NEW ENERGY! Seriously! I have noticed it lately and I was reading some of BilJac's reviews and realized, oh yes, my dogs too! I have been feeling guilty that we've not been taking walks and getting out much but I have been noticing that they are far more playful and energetic. They are more puppylike lately than they have been for years. THAT alone makes me want to keep them on this food! Obviously, they are happy inside!
