Hollywood Video 1

This is a horrible company to work for. I've been employed for almost a year, and the company has gotten progressively worse. First, you are responsible for idiotic customers who don't know the difference between a display box and the actual film. Furthermore, if you care about your paycheck, you are told to stay until EVERYTHING is complete, so that the morning crew has nothing to do. Unfortunately, this task can run far over the expected clock out time. Certain customers don't even give the right information! They just lie and give someone else's name and get offended if you ask for ID, so at the risk of a hissie-fit, you have to pray that this person isn't lying, which unfortunately is rarely the case. Certain customers who live with the primary on the account will rent under that name, then return the movie several days late, and hold you responsible for it! The promotions for movies are constantly changing, now it's literally almost every other week, and it's outrageous. The computer system is outdated and horrendously slow, so often the employee will be ready to finish a transaction, but the computer is still lagging behind trying to price the damn movie.
The hours are inconsistent, and one might reserve a certain time up to six months in advance, and then not get it so the manager can fit his/her schedule better. The new E4 program is basically saying that you have to exploit the hell out of the customer at every opportunity, much like retail elsewhere. This company doesn't care about its employees or its customers at all, if it did, it would have a bigger movie selection, and more movies in stock. Those smart enough to realize that have left, meaning that some stores don't have enough work. I couldn't go one day without my phone asking me to come in to either cover someone else's shift, or help around. Essentially, this company forces you to do too much without paying you enough for it.

Avoid them at all costs.

Idiotic customers? or idiotic company policies? First of all, I have to say AGAIN to the retards who run Hollywood Video: DISPLAY BOX ONLY does NOT mean the same thing as OUT OF STOCK. If you want customers to know whether something is out of stock or not, you have to have some method of telling them that. COMMUNICATE that fact. Get a high school kid to program a simple routine that displays on a cheap-ass LED screen which new release videos are out of stock. You have instead, hundreds of boxes displayed in a deliberately misleading array, and you miscommunicate what is in stock. Sure, a display box could mean its out of stock, or it could mean its a display box. You could also check the returns box to see if it is in there... But no, instead you just put a bunch of boxes on display. Seriously, if Wal-Mart put empty boxes on the shelf and you waited in line for ten-fifteen minutes only to be told that the item you were holding wasn't in stock actually, you'd be pissed. Hollywood Video needs to get with the program and start realizing that their stupidity is not the customer's, but their own. We buy what we want, and what we want is NOT display boxes. Putting them on the shelf is like a car dealer putting cars with no engines on their lots.
