I agree with schmeep and the other reviewer who said THIS SHOW SUCKED! Please by all the Elder Gods don't let the idjits who produced this show get it up and running EVER AGAIN! Bad enough it's in overkill syndication up here because it's CanCon (Canadian Content), new episodes would be WORSE.

Anyone who thinks this show is an accurate depiction of what it's like to be a disabled minority (of ONE) in a workplace, needs to get their butts up off the couch and get out into THE REAL WORLD (remember that people?). The only realistic part was at the beginning where the one guy had it in for her. It stopped being realistic when they came to an understanding and he started getting respect for her! In the Real World, if someone's got it in for you in the workplace (especially if you're even just a little bit different) THEY WILL NOT LET UP. Ever.

Of course it would have been too depressing to show Reality, having Sue get all kinds of undeserved reprimands, bad performance evals, no chances at advancement, no raises, etc., the way it really happens in the Real World when a coworker wants to undermine you because they don't think you should be taking a normal person's job!

Don't get me started on the "technology" they showed. All of that was pure science fiction!! Nobody can text that fast, not even teenagers, never mind when they're in danger! Never mind the fact that relay sucks worse than anything imaginable (and Homeland Security is going to let an FBI AGENT carry on a CLASSIFIED CONVERSATION in front of a third party? I've got a great bridge to sell you. Barely been used.)

As for it being "Based on a true story" the only part that's true is her name is Sue Thomas, and she was Deaf! The rest is pure fantasy CRAP and has no bearing in reality! The real Sue Thomas (disabilities advocate IRL more power to her but she's real religious which puts me off) was NEVER in the field, she only ever got so far as being the manager of a department of other lip-readers! There's no way she could have done any of the things the character did on the show because HELLO?! She's DEAF! If you're paralyzed by heights, you physically cannot become a parachute instructor! It's the same thing!

Then there was all that "Touched by a Deaf Angel" schtick. At least on the real Touched by an Angel, you could tell when the girl started glowing, it was time to change the channel cuz the preaching was about to commence! I know I know I know it was on an Xtian network so they had to throw it in but I bet the actors got lots of cavities! Not a show for the insulin-dependent for sure!

The worse part? IT'S STILL IN RERUNS. And people are still falling all over themselves about how great it is, bla di bla bla. The show SUCKED. It always sucked, it continues to suck, and will suck, until such time as it is finally pulled off the air!

The trufans are still nuts over it though. Good thing I'm not still living in Mississauga; The First Ever Sue Thomas Fan Convention was held this year (yeah I know it sucks right) and it was way too close to my old apartment! I wouldn't have been able to resist setting up my own private little picket! They probably would have thumped me to death with their bibles!! (I'm not religious can you tell ha ha.)
