Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar 1

I have worked at Applebees for two and a half years. I am appreciative that they have employed me and worked around my schedule while I am in college, however, this restaurant is quickly going downhill. Our managers, minus some exceptions over the years, have been downright unfit to manage McDonalds. Our current hostesses tell customers that "we don't be double seatin' round here." Not only are the hostesses completely incompetent but they also cost us money. Our cooks are just complete crap. They are slow and hate their lives or something. I have never worked in a restaurant where the cooks have been so hateful and rude. Outback Steakhouse was ten times better and a lot cooler. We also got this new spokesperson, Wanda Sykes. I can not stand this woman because her voice and humor irritate me incredibly. Our new uniforms blow and our new 3 course menu is a real pain. We actually have to make the deserts. When I have five tables the last thing I want to do is make a desert. This is a prime example of the sub par leadership at Applebees. Just as an example...Say you have five tables, roughly ten people get the three course combo...If you have been double or triple seated and even if not, this means that you are going to take a good chunk of time and concentration on making the deserts for the ungrateful people. Not only that, but you have to watch for 30 different items to go out just for ten people. This isn't completely blown out either. I had eight people order that 3 course combo within fifteen minutes the other night. So, not only am I now dealing with rude people, rude cooks, a high expo, incompetent managers (sometimes),but I also have to prepare their food myself. Basically this means I have to take on a huge responsibility to make your food good. Next time you eat at Applebees or any other restaurant, cut your server a break...Most of the time they do not want to serve you or talk to you...From my exprience people are not enjoyable and I just want to get them out of there. Remember that the server is just that...Wise up people..We are just a link in the chain and do not oversee the complete production of your Applebees food. I really do think it is time for me to move to a different restaurant. Applebees just irritates me these days. They have changed too much and in the process ruined this chain. For the most part our food does suck, but I think people are a little too hard on the food. It is not overpriced, it is worth what you are paying for.

Never worked at Applebees, but you can tell when you visit that its not that well run of a company. They have struggled so badly that they had to be bought by IHOP of all companies. After working at Outback, high quality restaurant chain, I can't imagine going to an Applebees.

No offense, your job may suck in your opinion, but you should be thanking your lucky stars you have a job. I know you say you're appreciative, but the way you're ranting on and on about having so many orders and having to make desserts doesn't sound very appreciative. It's your job. You are a server. If you don't want to serve people their food and meet their every request, get another job.

In your defense, however, even I get annoyed when people are a pain in the a*s at restaurants and I'm not even a server anymore. And by the way, I'm one of those customers who has never sent food back or ever said anything negative to a server about my food or experience at a restaurant. This is for a few reasons: 1) I know it's not going to do me any good 2) Kitchen mistakes are not the server's fault 3) I was a server and know that servers usually really don't give a crap and are just trying to pay their way through college, pay their rent, etc. and 4) People have way too high of expectations going to a restaurant chain created to appeal to the masses. It's not a specialized restaurant, so you get what you pay for. And most of the time, it's crap. Consumers should educate themselves and realize what they're going to get when they enter a restaurant like that and not set their expectations too high. A lot of the times, at least in my working experience, the food is on the blander side because consumers are too picky (i.e. the "appeal to the masses" thing). This way, they won't have to re-cook the entire dish, just add a few things. In order to take something out of the dish, you would have to re-cook it - so they play it on the safe side. But again, this is only in my experiences.

Also, I'm not just a random blabbering idiot - I've had experience both as a server in a restaurant chain such as this and I've had experience being a consumer. I try to understand both sides of the spectrum, and I think I have in this post.

I also agree with you - Outback is so much better and definitely high-quality.
