True Christian--What is a true Christian? 3

Fitman, I'm gonna challenge your assertion of the "Golden Rule" being the gold standard by which a person is a Christian. I know personally several people who live by the Golden Rule, but who swear no allegiance to God and what the Word teaches us about God. Are they still good people? Yes they are. Are they Christians? No. Does that condemn them? That is not for me to say. As for what defines us as Christian, I think it is those who follow Christ's example in their daily lives. It is those who believe and accept the free gift of grace, and share that Good News through action, not to earn the gift, but to say "Thank You" to God who gave it freely. Now I could be off in left field on this, but it is how I understand my faith. :)

Please note that I did not say anything like, "the 'Golden Rule' (is) the gold standard by which a person is a Christian". I said that those who truly attempt to follow the Golden Rule are being true to the core teachings of Yeshua, The Master Teacher. The various Jesus cults can have the field of arguing who's a 'True Christian" to themselves. I'm really not particularly interested in that subject.

Then we have each learned something today. I did not come here to argue, but to learn through sharing. And I thank you for sharing your perspective. :)

I believe that each of us sees some of the point. Do we all get it right? Perhaps that is the point, that we can't, and that we need Jesus.

MD, to this point I have only the Scriptures and my own experiences from which to know the will of God, and both say to me that "following doctrine" doesn't matter. Caring for God's creation does. Call that liberal thinking if you like, it makes no difference to me. My place is not to be judge and jury, but to witness to God through service to others. Your place is between you and God, and no one else. The only point I have tried to make is that it's no longer about rules or regulations. It's about relationship with God and with others, and you can't have an open relationship and fence people off with rules at the same time.

NONE of us can follow the examples of Christ while in his earthy ministy (Matt- John) and if you could, that would not make you a christian, we follow Paul as the example (1 Tim 1:16) Christ in heaven would not want you to follow his example in the 4 gospels, that was under the law to the jews, you all are unlearned, smart, but you miss the entire point. I would suggest you all Rightly Divide the word, (2 Tim 2:15.

I never said everyone's going to heaven, or to hell. All I said is that it's not my place to make that judgement. As for the rest of your assertions, while you and I may not see eye to eye, that we have shared them is a decent start. Hopefully we can both learn from this. :)

Faith without passion (or works) is dead, so live it loud or don't bother. :) As for the pulpit, I'm more comfortable with a songbook and an open mic. :)
