Generally speaking, this seems to work for me. I have a friend who swears that if you pour one of those small packets of sugar you get with your coffee in the diner down your throat when you get the hiccups, it'll stop them. I've never tried it; hiccups aren't often a problem for me, and when they are, holding my breath seems to work. Still, if it doesn't, there are a lot of those sugar packets floating around out there, if you want to give it a try.
