State Farm 1

A couple of months ago my friend hit someone, and the back of her car was pretty messed up. She filed a claim to let State Farm know what happened. It took them WEEKS just to finally say "OK, pick a place to have your car worked on" and so she chose a body shop of her own choosing (which is legal in California, no insurance company can tell you where to go) and she drops her car off and the car shop says "We'll have State Farm assess the damage and see if we come to the same amount" so she waits and waits and State Farm is supposed to call her and tell her how much it will cost but she never gets a call and each time she calls they say "We will send a notice as soon as we send someone out there". Well, I was with her when she gets a call from the autobody shop and they call to tell her that her car is ready for pick up. So she goes there and they give her the bill and apparently SHE HAS TO PAY over $1000 and she's flipping out. So I tell her to go to her agent and we get there and the lady says "Well we sent a letter out to let you know we wouldn't be able to cover all the amount" and my friend goes, "You never notified me AND you never got my permission. Where did I sign???" and the lady just goes "Oh well we thought it'd be OK...there's nothing we can do now. You should have picked an autobody shop we work with." But luckily my dad is a police officer and he told us how illegal that was and what a SCAM!!!!! So my dad helps my friend to KEEP harassing State Farm until they pay or else she'll sue them for more than what this was worth, and FINALLY they pay it and guess what? The dumb letter comes in FINALLY saying "We will not be able to cover the full amount at this autobody shop" LOL What a JOKE!!!!!!!! It was dated AFTER they had approved to have the work done. Well, needless to say my friend SWITCHED.

Firs let me say, Your friend is telling big yarns here. The agent was probably waiting for her to make up her mind as to where she wanted to take the car. 2nd State farm does not approve the work only gives the estimate. So if she was taken it was by the body shop, whom should of called her and told her of the estimate. Belive me if state farm paid it was for good will. The are a large company and are not afraid of law suits. I do not believe someone from State Farm said they thought it would be ok and there is nothing they could do now. you do not say how old the car was or how much the damage was. There isn't a state in the United States that a insurance company can tell you where to take your car. California is not alone.
