Barack Obama (Democrat)

ItemImage

Barack Obama, born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. Senator from Illinois. A "draft Obama" movement began with his well-received keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Obama was the featured speaker at Iowa Senator Tom Harkin's annual steak fry, a political event favored by presidential hopefuls in the lead-up to the Iowa caucus. He was endorsed by talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2006. Various recent opinion polls have seen Obama's support rising, with him trailing only Hillary Clinton in several polls. If elected, he would become the first African-American President of the United States. Obama announced on February 10, 2007 that he will run in 2008. He has filed the official paperwork.

Like his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, Obama is a center/right, corporate capitalist, establishment candidate.

Unlike John McCain (an extreme rightwing, corporate capitalist, establishment candidate), Obama doesn't promise to continue the failed policies of the Bush administration.

It is difficult to exchange political views with someone who states so many erroneous things that there is no starting point. McCain is a right-winger? No, his problem is with the right wing of his own party whom he has betrayed many times, voting like a liberal. If he were, his money coffers would be full and his VP candidate would be obvious at this point. To characterize both Obama and Clinton as center-right politicians is an equally wrong statement. mag then enters the fray with a suggestion about populism, couched as a slam against the current president. And wonder of all wonders, fitman gets 6 (as of today) helpfuls for his original comment, which is neither accurate, nor clarifying. The only explanation I can come up with is that the helpfuls are from republican-hating liberals (or Obama pom-pom pumpers) who have as little idea as fitman does about what is going on, but feel the need to defend him and are poised to vote for Obama regardless of any discussion. Like fitman.

John McCain is anything but Right-Wing, anyone should be able to see that!

eh, I think you guys go overboard on the liberal accusations. And you fail to notice when one of your own is fiscal populist. Let's be crystal clear on this: nobody running for President will be nearly the big government populist that George W. Bush was.
