Here we have a great film full of stars, with a great director and based on a good novel with the novelist being part of the writing crew. Bridges copped a nomination for best supporting actor here. He played a coming of age Texas teener in a small town in North Texas. Ben Johnson, in the same film, won the best supporting actor and aced out Bridges. Cloris Leachman won best supporting actress for her role in this movie defeating Ellen Burstyn, actress in the same movie.
This was Cybill Shepherd's film debut. Larry McMurtry was the novelist. It is in black and white, so I am sure some of the younger members of the RIA might be shocked by this. Choke it down and watch the flick! It is great!
