Sagrada Familia Basilica

reviewed by GenghisTheHun

'The Patron of this project is not in a hurry' was the quote from Gaudi about the construction of this church. Building started in 1882 and continues to this day. Gaudi held the post of architect for 40 years until his death in 1926.

Sagrada Familia Basilica 5

Absolutely unique in church art, this building continues to be built. About twenty years of work remain to be done. The great architect and artist Antonio Gaudi designed and worked on it for decades. Soon after he died, the Spanish Civil War broke. The "progressive" anarchists burned the church, Gaudi's models, his plans and his workshop. This was a true crime against mankind, but that is what anarchism was all about--crime and destruction of civilization.

Why didn't anarchists (who had such strong feelings about the crimes committed by the Church of Rome in Spain that some of them wanted to erase every trace of Catholicism and its 'sopilotes') destroy this church? And why do most historians say Gaudi didn't have any plans to be destroyed? Could we be reading official church/fascist propaganda?http://tinyurl.com/yujpoc

<<< George Orwell thought Gaudi's Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona was one of the world's most hideous buildings and said the anarchists in the Civil War showed "bad taste in not blowing it up when they had the chance". >>> http://tinyurl.com/344xnd

The reason was quite simple, and often explained before, if you want to read some history. Explosives were dear and needed on the front. Matches were cheap. As to the style, I said it was unique. I didn't say that I liked it.
