In recent years, we always seem to hear that Toronto could sneak up on the Yankees and the Red Sox, but they always fall short. Toronto generally winds up a few games over.500. Alhough not a low budget club, it's still one of those teams that needs everything to break right for them. Vernon Wells needs to rebound from a poor year, and closer BJ Ryan needs to stay healthy. Toronto added David Eckstein and injury prone Scott Rolen from St. Louis, but both seem to have peaked already. Frank Thomas had a pretty good year but turns 40 this season. Roy Halliday is one of the better pitchers in the league, and AJ Burnett has a world of stuff but needs to stay healthy for a full year. If kids like McGowan can come through for them and everyone stays healthy, they could have enough to make the playoffs, but it's fairly unlikely.
