Just went through the process of selling a car, listed it on both autotrader and craigslist. Took about 3 weeks to sell.
Autotrader had both a phone number and a email listed, I got zero emails and about a dozen phone calls from outfits wanting me to spend more money listing my car with their services. All these were pretty dubious - the sort of place that claims a money back guarantee, but when you look them up online you see many people complaining that they had lots of difficulty getting their money back.
On the other hand the craigslist ad had only an email listed, and I got about 20 emails, of which a dozen or so were real buyers, and one of those bought the car.
Conclusion - not only did I waste $50 on Autotrader, but I could have saved myself a lot of annoying phone calls if I avoided them altogether.
