Outback Steakhouse 1

A friend and I visited a Ms location of Outback for dinner. I frequently order the Rack of Lamb medium rare because dry tough meats can prove difficult to swallow. On this particular visit, the lamb, though cooked properly, was very tough and rubbery. I made it past the first rib but the next, no matter how much I chewed did not break down and became stuck in my esophagus. This has happened once or twice in the past briefly when eating dry or tough meats but passed quickly. This occasional difficulty in swallowing is why I always try to eat where the meat is choice and cooked properly, as it historically is at Outback. This time the meat remained lodged. I informed the manager of my predicament stating that I was not hitting him up for a free meal but I could not eat this one and was in distress over not being able to swallow. He did not seem too concerned about my wellbeing so I told him that the best I could do was take the rest home to my dog. He expressed even less concern and arranged for to-go boxes. When the check came and my rack of lamb remained, I gave the to-go boxes of my friend and myself to the manager and informed him that I had been mistaken. The meals were not fit for my dog. The saliva was backing up in my esophagus with no place to go but out and I was panicking so I left and went to the back of the restaurant to retch some more as I had three times in the Outback restroom and try to dislodge the stuck meat with no success. I went to the back so I would not have to perform the disgusting task in front of your patrons in the parking lot. When I gave up on expelling it, I got up and turned around and there was your manager behind me smoking a cigarette and smirking at me. He said I did not have to make a scene that he would not have charged me if I had asked. Sorry but had I been the manager I not only would I have not charged a patron who could not swallow because of the food he was served but I would not have let the patron out the door until I was assured that there was no medical problem. I would certainly have shown some concern that one if my patrons could not consume one of the most expensive meals on the menu or even finish his beer because he could not swallow. I went to the hospital around 10:30 PM that night and a specialist was called in to put me under to remove the obstruction. I had spent over five hours unable to swallow. They had to ventilate my lungs during the procedure, which did not do much for my Asthma either. I was released from the hospital the next morning at 11AM and spent the rest of the weekend recuperating on the couch from the soreness brought on by the procedure. It was something like how you feel for three days after pushing yourself too hard the first day of spring training or perhaps like a 17-hour ordeal brought on by a tough piece of lamb consumed in an establishment you trusted for quality. I just wanted all to know the kind of service and care this former Outback customer received at the Ms. location we visited.

too bad the manager was such a jerk. he obviously does not understand what it is like to have this problem with the epsophogus. I have the same trouble as you and often have to be careful of what meats I order at restaurants. it is frustrating enough when this happens and your throat closes.{you can breath and even talk but cannot even swallow your own saliva}. they should have been more understanding.

Had the meat been of the quality that I am use to at Outback It would never have happened. The manager would probably still have been a jerk though. Thanks for your kind comment molfan(53)
