Today is April 11, and on this date in history, in 1899, Spain ceded Puerto Rico to the United States. This is another shameful case of imperialism of a so-called republic. We should have granted Puerto Rico its independence decades ago. It remains in a political half life--quasi-independent and quasi-American.
