Oil dependency

"Rather than begging Arab oil sheiks to produce more oil, America should produce our own oil to send a signal that we are willing to increase our supplies and drive down prices," said Sen. Lisa Murkowski, (R-AK). Sorry Lisa the left wing wackos like paying 123 dollars per barrel for their oil. I urge all of you to contact your Senator and implore them to support The American Energy Production Act S-2284 and S-2958. It is time to do something about these oil prices!

I find it odd how gas was an average 1.49 per gallon in Jan of 2001 when W. took office. The price only went up to 2.33 in the next 6 years. Then in Jan. of 2007, when Pelosi and the Dems took over the House and Senate, the price skyrocketed over 50% in 15 months. Is that a coincidence? A little acronym called ANWR would work nicely. You put a gag order on RFK Jr. and the Sierra Club and we begin tapping into our own (plentiful) resources! There would be an estimated 250,000 to 735,000 jobs created in ANWR. Royalty and Tax revenues for the life of ANWR would be between 150-230 billion dollars. Those in Congress who vote against ANWR, like they have done for the last 20 years, get voted out ASAP. You then begin to build 6 to 12 new refineries. Once these things take place our so called allies, the Saudies, begin to all but beg us to buy their oil and prices plummet!

ANWR drilling was approved by the House and Senate in 1995 and Clinton vetoed it!

I agree with much of what you are saying Ridge. Bottom line is we need to harvest our own resources, which are very plentiful, and we need to hold OPEC and the Saudis and the like much more accountable!

Okay...so that wasn't my last take for the night. I read through the link and it sure does seem like the Democrats are trying to destroy us, economically. But, there's something else that bothers me and it's the shell game...the one where someone is trying to convince us that 1 + 1 = 3. It doesn't add up. Then again, we'd have to be foolish not to believe what we see. If lowering supply when demand is going up, then why won't the oil producing countries increase their production to help us? To make it even stickier, why has the oil industry always been immune to the laws of supply and demand? Why have the prices gone up...even during peak production...when the demand had increased? See what I mean? In most other industries, high demand LOWERS prices. This is not a two-dimensional problem. Either way...we're getting screwed. The OPEC nations are in a position to ease things back and, unfortunately, we are at their mercy...which sucks...Now, we can go back nearly 20 years and ask why we weren't allowed to head this off at the pass. We have become compromised from the inside and now we hold a weak hand...

And lastly, Louie...for tonight anyways...half the crowd is pointing their fingers at the Democrats and the other half is pointing at Bush and Co., but it's just got to be larger than that. Much larger. We can't even agree on who killed Kennedy 45 years ago. Trying to simplify this with two stick figures is like trying to view a painting that is being held right up against our noses. Far too complex...

There's only one way to determine how things have come to this, Louie: Ask the question, "Who has what to gain?" and the answer is simple: The oil producers and the people (as usual) who are getting paid-off to look the other way. It's the same old story, 'cept this time, it's the USA who is getting chopped off below the knees. There are some bad people out there of all colors...I need to read the links provided...thanks for that...

I agree that we should be producing our own fuel, Louie, however, IF...and that's a big IF...we did begin to tap our own resources today, meaning, creating and building the necessary equipment and facilities, we wouldn't see a drop of that oil for at least 20 years. That's how far behind we are. I disagree that we have the ability to humble the Arab-producing States. They won't be lacking for consumers in the foreseeable future, with or without us. We have painted ourselves into a corner. Hell...the very country that we have invested billions on...Iraq...is gouging us IN Iraq. They are charging the US military upwards to $6.00 per gallon to move our ground vehicles and (I forget the figure) twice the market value for jet fuel. Can you feel the screws tightening everywhere you turn? There are certainly internal forces working against us, but it's way more complex than that, I would think...The oil producers are in a position to put us out of business...
