Should Abortion Remain Legal?
1
Like EDT I am adopted. However, I was born in 1982, after the ruling in Roe vs. Wade made abortion legal in all states. My birth mother, who was a teenager and not supported by her father to keep the baby, could have had an abortion. She chose not to, and I am eternally grateful for that. I can humbly say that my life on earth has made a major impact on the lives of my family and hopefully many other people. If I were aborted my parents, siblings, extended family, my wife, and friends would never have benefited from my presence. My son who now has the chance to love and be loved by others would never have been born. Maybe my life might have turned out differently and people might have wished I was never born. However, I am an optimist who believes that all people have the potential to do great things. It is a shame when another person, no matter what stage of developement, is not given the chance to be great...to be loved...to be free. I sympathize with those who contemplate, and eventually have abortions. It certainly is not an easy choice to have a child. However, I do believe it is wrong to make that choice to end a child's life before birth. I do not think our country is ready for abortion to be illegal. There is too much support for it to go away right now. However, I hope and pray that one day our society wil change in a way that people can agree that sanctioned killing of another human being does not need to be legal.
