to deliberately try to make another reviewer look foolish

fitman

I hit the FUNNY button when a reviewer has amused me (intentionally or not) or made himself look foolish.

I recieve FUNNY ratings when I've been foolish, said something someone is annoyed by, or said something that's actually funny.

People with poor taste mark my music reviews FUNNY, thereby making themselves look silly.

One reviewer hits me with a FUNNY on almost every review I post. When he does that, he makes somebody look foolish... but it's not me.

UPDATE:

All of us reviewers are free to make ourselves look foolish or brilliant, and nothing anyone else does or says can alter that simple fact.

UPUPDATE:

Please award me a few more FUNNY ratings...

Thanks.

You're right, fitman...they should be ashamed to show their faces. Having just returned after a good time away from this site, I frequently have a hard time rating certain items...they are neither helpful, funny, or anything that requires agreement. The funny vote has replaced the unhelpful vote (it's obvious when a review was meant to be funny) and has become the point of least resistance for people who need to expel a little hostility, one click at a time. I know how you feel..you can't shoot a ghost and it's kinda creepy knowing that they're lurking around. If an item isn't ratable, I take one of two paths: I skip it, or I leave a comment. Keeps my conscience clean...Wuchoo gonna do? Be excellent at everything you do and don't sweat the little things.

Surely the half dozen who clicked FUNNY on Question Mark's tragic story (he lost his house, a number of pets, and virtually all his belongings in a fire) ought to be ashamed to show their faces. I'm not opposed to an UNHELPFUL or other negative button, but it won't change much.

That would be like rewarding a monkey with a slip of paper that says "M&M" on it. Some people are too concerned about what other people think of them to show their faces. Some don't like to be questioned, or pushed back. What I think is lacking, however, is a "negative button". I once suggested to Lawrence that an "unhelpful" vote not be registered w/o a comment of some kind. People weren't receptive to this.

Perhaps the solution is no BUTTONS at all? Then we'd all have to register our opinions [of reviews or reviewers] by commenting or ignoring.

Maybe we need a "Clicking this ain't gonna change the truth" button...

I'm not complaining. I think it's really funny when some poor soul reveals himself to be so frustrated he feels it's necessary to mark my serious reviews FUNNY.

Don't feel alone. It's happening on every one of mine, too. And I might say they're going to great lengths to do it. But on the flipside, I also know who's doing it. No names will be mentioned. This person knows who they are.
