Purina 5

How about a review by someone who is feeding Purina and not just bashing it based on ingredients?

I have nine hunting Beagles and one mutt. I normally feed Purina ONE, however in the "off season" - i.e. summer - I prefer to feed something that is lower in protein/fat. We also have a hard time keeping weight on our dogs, they are so active year round. Some foods make them gain, yet it's all fat, no muscle mass :(  We need something economical (it ain't cheap feeding 10 dogs plus a litter of pups - we go through approx 2-3 bags of food per month), yet it's imperative they remain in top shape.

Sounds like a paid advertisement, but Purina Dog Chow meets those requirements for us. Coats are awesome! There is very little shedding/dander/dust in the house when we feed Purina ... the difference in coat is noticable. The dogs all keep on healthy weights without being fed an extraordinary amount of feed. My 65lb mutt eats 2 cups per day. He's 7yrs old and has a showdog coat now (that was NOT always the case), and not an ounce fo fat on him. All muscle. For all the dogs, stool is small/firm/well digested. Eyes are bright. Energy levels are even. Shedding is at the bare minimum. Dogs I've purchased as adults who were in cruddy shape with hot spots or underweight just thrived on Purina ONE and Dog Chow!

I don't care what the ingredients are, this food gives results. I wouldn't waste my hard earned money if it was junk and didn't keep my hunting/breeding dogs healthy and looking great.

I DID feed Purina for years... and wondered why my hounds had chronic ear infections, why my Rotties were always dry, flaky, and balding around their backside, and why they all had large, loose stools. Now that I know about animal nutrition (and am working on a doctorate specializing in pet nutrition) I understand why.
