Game of the Year. Alright, I can handle that, though I don't agree. Game of the Year in 40+ publications... that's a little harder to digest. Best Game EVER? NOT A CHANCE! This game uses the Quake II engine to tell the somewhat creepy sci fi story of aliens overrunning a top secret research facility. When your character, Gordon Freeman, attempts to escape and find help for his fellow scientists from the military, it turns out the military is trying to exterminate all the scientists. Now Gordon must fight two forces, the military, and the aliens, while trying to protect the scientists. It is fun, but it kind of hard. It is definitely not best game ever material. It is a game lost between a few different genres, and it can't stick with one style of game. First it is an adventure game. Then a survival horror game. Then an action game. Then a survival horror game. Then an adventure game. It would be so much better if it were just one game that wasn't trying to be something it is not.
