RateItAll is Moderated with a Bias in Favor of Site Regulars 3

I find it quite curious that the prolific rater Mrs.morovan hasn't spoken out on this issue.

Would it be fair to ask you to keep my wife out of this? She was denied an account, and neither of us are happy about it.

OK, it doesn't look good for the lmorovan defense (team?), but he just might be telling the truth about phantom accounts. Lord knows he's made sufficient numbers of enemies to make credible the suggestion that someone else may be resposible for some of his multiple accounts.

Just as a reality check, the hacker would have to be working from LM's house. Even having access to LM's password and login info (on either RIA or MySpace) would not allow the user to clone his IP address. While it's not impossible that an intruder broke into LM's house (perhaps a one armed man?) with the sole purpose of padding his helpful votes, it seems unlikely. I think we can put this incident behind us know - I've done my best to explain that 1) yes, it is possible to create multiple accounts on RIA (either via MS/FB or RateItAll.com); 2) it's still against the rules to pad your account with helpfuls. Let's move on.

Fit, I also appreciate your instincts to push back on a witch hunt. To be fair to LM, this could have started innocently enough. If he logged into MySpace (without being logged in to RateItAll), it could have accidentally created an MS-XXXX account. This is not against the rules, and is perfectly understandable. But the problem arose when LM (or an intruder to his house) visited RateItAll.com while logged in as MSXXXXX, then clicked "helpful" next to every review posted by LMorovan. It's as if LM (or an intruder working from his house), suddenly realized that they had the ability to give themselves helpfuls, and took full advantage of it. I will post more on the blog regarding how MySpace and Facebook integration work.

I'm telling you all, the Cigarette Smoking Man is involved...

I must confess I know little about the details of hacking, but I suspect it might be possible for an expert to leave a false IP trail? In any case, this whole subject is a tempest in a teapot, and I'll just leave it to others to resolve the issue.
