Born in 1933, James Brown released his first CD, "Try Me!," in 1959. His most popular songs include "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "I Got You (I Feel Good)." The "Godfather of Soul" won many Grammy Awards, including one for best rhythm and blues vocal performance in 1986.

Classic case of I-can't-stand-the-person but damn if he wasn't a talented artist. Very underrated musical mind- his shows (and musicians) were talented as they were complex. Brown treated women the way dubya treats the English language- with severe abuse and stupidity. But his '20 greatest hits' is a must-own.
