Barack Obama (Democrat)

ItemImage

Barack Obama, born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S. Senator from Illinois. A "draft Obama" movement began with his well-received keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Obama was the featured speaker at Iowa Senator Tom Harkin's annual steak fry, a political event favored by presidential hopefuls in the lead-up to the Iowa caucus. He was endorsed by talk show host Oprah Winfrey in 2006. Various recent opinion polls have seen Obama's support rising, with him trailing only Hillary Clinton in several polls. If elected, he would become the first African-American President of the United States. Obama announced on February 10, 2007 that he will run in 2008. He has filed the official paperwork.

he is likeable and intelligent, but he lacks the experience or maturity to be commander in chief of a nation at war.

Bill O'Reilly of Fox News (a very conservative commentator, whom I generally think is an arrogant ass) interviewed Obama. The first part of it was broadcast tonight, 9/4/08, and concentrated on the topic of terrorism. After the interview and input by commentators on whether Obama would be a good commander-in-chief, O'Reilly said of Obama: "He'd be tough. . . . He's no wimp." O'Reilly also commended Obama for his forthrightness. Okay you conservatives, one of your own has vouched for Obama. What say you?

Unfortunately there are many other jobs out there that give you direct experience running a country at war. The current President got all of his war experience on the job too.
