Bear Bells

Bells carried by campers and hikers, usually strapped to a pack or a belt that are supposed to prevent the camper from surprising a bear.

These are sold where I live by the carton to campers and hikers. The theory is that strapping one to your pack or belt will make a constant noise, and bears will avoid you. Unfortunately, this only works for black bears. Grizzly's think its a dinner bell.

05/05/2008		The other line is that if you want to know what kind of bear it is, climb a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, its a black bear. If it knocks the tree down and eats you, its a grizzly.

05/05/2008		The joke goes that you can tell what type of bears are in the area by looking at the bear poop. Black bear poop is dark and squishy. Grizzly poop has bells in it.
