Reserved truck and car trailer weeks in advance. When I arrived, they had neither. Made me drive across town to one dealership for the truck, to another for the trailer. Truck had a flat tire. The dealer inflated it and said I was good to go. I went to lunch for a hour. Tire lost 15 lbs. Drove to repair facility way on the other side of town, where wheel was replaced. Left town six hours behind schedule.
They don't only screw customers, they also screw themselves. I got my $75 deposit back three times. I actually made money on the move.
On another move, they closed the office while customers were standing in line. They said come back tomorrow.
Reservations mean nothing to U-Haul. It's first come, first served. Arrive when the office opens, avoid weekends, expect to lose half a day due to their errors.
I found it's cheaper to throw away furniture, ship clothes and small items via UPS in trunks weighing exactly 70 lbs. UPS costs $300; used furniture for an apartment is $1200 at Cort.
