Terrified of being tortured as a heretic, Copernicus held off on publishing his life's work until the very year of his death. The book was subsequently banned until 1835 as it conflicted with the Catholic Church's central tenet that the Earth was the center of the Universe. Since we now know this to be false, all of the other teachings, such as the virgin birth, the mystical transubstantiation of matter, resurrection, etc are in no way impugned, no don't be silly.
