3.5 Newsom's best years were actually with the Tigers at the end of the
30's/ beginning of the 40's, when he was one of the best pitchers
around. He played with this club five times. Sorting out where
to put Newsom would be like an earthworm trying to solve Rubik's cube-
he played for many teams, the Dodgers, Red Sox, A's, Browns, Tigers,
etc- sometimes several times- but spent the most time here. Had a
losing record of 211-222, but some of that is because he played for
some horrid squads...A character, kind of a good old boy from the South
who liked to swill and clown around, but very good at his peak.
