A first baseman who played about 20 years in the big leagues, the vast
majority of which was spent with this team. A good though far from
great hitter with a bit of power but not much- though a very slick
fielder and one of the best first base gloves of his time- up until the
arrival of monster power hitting guys like Gehrig, Foxx, and Greenberg,
first base was a position that often featured defensive specialists,
speed demons, high average but not that much power hitters, and guys who walked a lot. The Hal Chase/ George Sisler/
Joe Judge types of first basemen gradually became pretty much extinct. 3.5
